Higher Insurance for 2 door or 4 door?
Okay, my friend is thinking about purchasing a 2007 Pontiac G6, but she wants the GT Coupe 2 door model. My question is, would the insurance be significantly (pay attention) higher. to buy a 2-door GT coupe or a 4-door Sedan model?
Additional Details
I live in Michigan, specifically the Metro Detroit Area.

It doesn't really matter what kind of vehicle it is because it's not going to make a big difference, what will make it change is the type of driver that she is, if she is young and have few tickets then it will increase her premium by a lot but if she's a good driver it really wont matter the car that she gets. Usually imported vehicles are more expensive to fix or repair so they tent to be a little bit more to insured but not by much.

It'll be higher for the two door bacuase the coupe is considered a sports car while the sedan is considered a family car. Somehting to do with mumbo jumbo on people wanted to go faster ina two door car than in a four door.

The Shadow.... wrong again!

With most insurance companies you can expect a two door car to be slightly more expensive than a comparable four door model. This difference is likely based upon loss data that suggests greater loss frequency & severity with two doors. At the end of the day, however, other factors contribute more to the cost of insurance than this question. The performance capabilities & cost of repairing the model along with driving history will have a greater impact than 2 vs 4 doors. Tell your friend to get the car she wants and have fun with it.

It really won't make a significant difference in most instances, but it really depends on which insurance company you go through. She can easily call her agent and get multiple quotes for each individual car. The two door is considered a coupe or sports vehicle so of course it will be more than a family sedan vehicle with 4 doors. I would say between the two different vehicles you'd be looking at about a 40 dollar difference per 6 months.

Not significantly higher. In my area the GT coupe and GT convertible would be $3-$4 higher per month than the sedan. However, depending upon where you live that might be different. Insurance companies figure their premium based on your zip code, and if you live in an area that has a high crime and/or accident rate the difference may be more.

That's the wrong question - the right question is, "which car has a higher rating symbol?" Likely the 2 door has the higher symbol, but each carrier promulgates their own symbols, so without knowing which insurance company she's with, it's impossible to answer.

She can get quotes, BEFORE she buys the car, from her agent, for EACH car, so she can compare. It might be $100 difference, it might be $1500, depending on the car, AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY.
