In the UK Buildings and contents insurance have always been separate. If you own a home, most mortgage companies would require you to have buildings insurance as part of your agreement. I would recommend that you purchase contents insurance, although you don't have to. The reasons for the high premiums is because the risk to the insurance company is high, this is dependant on the area that you live in among other factors. Your best bet is to shop around and don't accept the first quote you receive.
hope you find a good deal |

Most people get contents insurance for peace of mind. You can get cover for accidental damage so if you drop your laptop or stain your carpet you can get replacements. If you add up the replacement cost of all items in your home you will be surprised how much it comes to - then think of having to replace it all after a fire or burgluary?
As with all insurance, it's something you buy but hope you will never need. |

Get it, cause you will be gutted if anything happens to your stuff. Just walk around your place & try to add the price up of everything in just one room, then multiple it by the number of rooms in your place. Could you afford to replace everything, even 2nd hand! |

It's a necessity unless you are prepared to lose everything. But I agree, the premium and high excess makes me sick. |

I want you to try a little test.
Go outside right now....just for a second....then look very carefully at what you are wearing.....take a deep breath and once again look at what you are wearing.....
Now....imagine in your mind if what you were wearing right now is the only thing you have left of all the stuff you own...that's what would happen if you had a house fire while you were gone from home and everything burned up in the fire.
Do you have enough money saved up to re-purchase everything you currently own but aren't wearing right now?
For most people that would take tens of thousands of dollars.
So, if you want to risk that....then don't buy home contents insurance.
That kind of insurance is pretty cheap in that context considering all you have to lose. |

This type of insurance is good for the valuables inside your home here in Texas. Now about Japan I cannot say. Here is Texas we call it home owners insurance for people that do not own their homes and wants their valuables secured. |

home contents insurance is very important. you never realise just how much it cost to replace it until it is to late find out how much it would cost to replace just the stuff you have in your bed room and you will see it all adds up clothes furniture and everything. you will see it is well worth the premiums |
