Home insurance is actually very flexible. I'm not familiar with all the fine print of my home policy, but my homeowners insurance agent is always helpful. Try calling your agent or a homeowners agent in your area. http://www.easyhomeinsuranceguide.com They should be able to assist you. |

Yes. You will still be covered if the home is covered for a loss. And, if the insurance covers the kind of loss that you have. |

It depends on your insurance contract and the cost of the remodel. Most insurance companies require that you notify them when you are making any additions/chnages to the home; they sometimes state that any modifications $25K or more requires notifications and then they begin to ask questions about the duration of the project, what's being done, are there licensed contractor's etc.
Read your contract; see if you have gauranteed replacement cost and if there is a cluase re:remodeling & notification.
As far as selling the house, this woul depend on your city/village. Some villages and/or townships will make you remove anything that you did not get a permit for before you sell the home. Check with your city building/zoning dept. |

No, there's no LOSS there. If you're being fined for something you did, that's not covered. If you messed up - that's not covered either.
I have no idea if you'll have a problem selling the house, I think that will depend on how good a job you did with that basement. |

Not always. It depends on the kind of loss. Basements, in particular, can have certain restrictions. Read your policy for specifics.
As for the question about problems selling the house, it all depends. If your township requires a certificate of occupancy (sometimes called a use and occupancy certificate) and actually comes out to inspect the property and sees the remodel and that it wasn't permitted, yes, you can be in for some large expenses to obtain the U & O. |
