No doubt the easiest way to get insurance quotes is on the web.
Why would you waste your time on the phone calling around?
the last time i needed quotes on insurance i used one of these comparison sites and it was great.
this is the site i used and it was quick like less than 5 mins.
The last thing I want to do is listen to elevator music while waiting for a salesman.
Anyway I got good quotes and ended up saving money so I was happy.
So shop around and compare quotes which is easy on the net.
Good starting point is at this site.

Good luck.

No insurance company can require your social security number. BUT - a lot of insurance companies are now looking to consumer reports including credit histories to help calculate your premium. With or without your social, the consumer reports are ordered and used - with your social, they definitely get an accurate report - without your social, are they really getting your report? All they are using in your name, date of birth, and address, which changes - is the database finding you or someone with similar info?

It is in your best interest to give all the requested information so that you get an accurate quote.

Yes they need the information requested. They will then have a file on you, wife etc.
If someone would attempt to file a false claim using your name etc it would be caught immediately. Information provided to Insurance companies, Physicians, surgeons and others in the medical profession, finance fields etc can be used to protect you.

No they dont need it. I work for an insurance company and we do use insurance score. However, 99% of the time we can get this information with address only. It is once in a very blue moon that I need to ask for a social to get a score. Also, we can give u a quote w/out a score but you get a better price with the score. But, again, 99% of the time we do not require a social, so if you are just filling out paperwork I would not provide your numbers. At least wait until you talk to someone from the company directly and get an explanation from them.

Well, they need it to run a credit score. Most companies, if you refuse to let them run the credit score, will refuse to give you a quote.

So if you REALLY don't want them to do it, you'll have to go through the phone book, see if you can find ANY agents that have ANY companies that will write a homeowners policy without a credit check.

But beware - the companies that DO, have MUCH higher rates, as they get the people with the very low scores - and many more claims.
