I am very sorry for your loss, but before you go get an attorney, who will charge you 33% of any monies you get, are you having any trouble with the insurance company? Are you are getting your benefits that you paid for? If you have questions regarding this situation, ASK!!! Ask the adjuster that came to your house and ask your insurance agent. That is what you are paying them for. Insurance adjusters are NOT out to screw you over, they are doing your job. If they indicate your claim is being denied and the reason for the denial is one you do not agree with, then it may be time to get an attorney. I hope all works out for you. |

Only if you want to lose a large chunk of your settlement to an attorney at $250.00 an hour.
Before you hit the panic button, just read carefully what you are supposed to get...the current appraisal value, your belongings,a hotel or other rental to stay in while your home is being rebuilt, etc.
Don't consult an attorney unless something isn't right...they will cost you dearly. |

You want to pay a lawyer 30% of your claim right up front? That's nuts.
You have an AGENT. Go to them first. Let them explain everything. FOR FREE. If you're unhappy with your agent, hire a public adjuster. They'll hold your hand and make sure you get what you're entitled to - for 15% of the take. The lawyer is the most expensive way to go.
And unless there are problems, your adjuster is going to do the best they can to be fair to you, most of the time. The PROBLEMS will come in, when you want to claim something that's not insured under your policy - like cash money, or your dog, or something. That's when your agent can show you where it says that in your policy, so you know you're not getting screwed. |

Insurance Companies are not in the business of paying claims. Unless your home is a "total loss" and you are getting a check for the full amount of your policy, try a public adjuster first - one with good references. Also go look at this website: www.benefitbill.com
If the insurance company suspects fraud, or does not pay in 30 days, you may require the services of an attorney - but not all attorneys do this kind of work. Shop for attorneys like you would shop for anything else. Fire claims should be simple, but like anything else, they can also be needlessly complicated. |

there should be no need for you to get a lawyer. your insurance company will assign and adjuster, who should talk to you in plain english and explain everything to you to your staisfaction so you you understand it. hiring a lawyer is actually only going to slow down the process of getting the claim settled. unless you feel you company is doing something outragious, there should be no reason you need a lawyer. i'm sorry for your loss. |

Sorry for your loss..Dont get a lawyer just yet. If you dont have a copy of your insurance policy, ask for it, and read it thoroughly. It will clearly define what is covered, and what isnt.
Then wait until the insurance company does their adjustment. Usually they are more than fair. If you feel that they are trying to give you less money than you're entitled to, then call a lawyer before cashing the insurance company check. Sometimes cashing or depositing the check in your account could be viewed as acceptance.
Good luck |

Sure if you don't mind spending thousands of dollars to pay a lawyer. You will pay by the hour. You should have an agent who will help be the middle man and help you with the claim. Contact your agent. If you don't have an agent, go to a local agent and ask them to be your broker, you will sign a letter to that fact. They will be able to help. |

You sound confused. Some of the answers are suggesting an agent. Not a good move. When it comes down to it whose side are they on? The insurance carrier not yours. Also they are not trained adjusters. You can start with a contractor who specializes in fire repairs. Look in the yellow pages under "restoration contractor's". Your insurance carrier may also offer the name(s) of some. Be careful with that as many of them work "programs" with the carriers. A public adjuster will work with you for a "fee". It will be less than hiring an attorney and just as skilled. You can interview as many as necessary until you feel comfortable with one. Ask for references and then call them. Ask a contractor to recommend one if possible. As an adjuster myself I can tell you that your insurance carrier is only as good as the adjuster they send out. If you feel that the adjuster is not working with you ask his/her supervisor for another adjuster. If you do not hire outside help, review the carriers estimate with a contractor. Ask them if they can put you back to a "pre-fire" condition with the estimate provided by the carrier. If not ask the contractor if he can get additional money from the carrier. If they are unsure or hesitate then hire the public adjuster. |

Depending upon what state you live in, you may be able to hire your own insurance adjuster to represent your side of the case. Remember, the adjuster the insurance company sends represent the insurance company and not you. |
