If you have insurance, it will pay (minus the deduction). You will need a police report and some proof of ownership of the items stolen. Receipts, photos, witnesses, etc. The cash can also be claimed, don't listen to what the other poster said. Lots of people keep cash in their house. They may question you about it and all you have to do is give them a short interview. If you swear there was cash stolen, you will get it back! I have five thousand in my house, but I do have it in a safe.
I submitted a claim on a $2000 gold watch that was five years old. I had no proof but a photograph of me wearing the item from several years before. They paid the FULL value, I got a check for $2000. I actually lost the watch, it was not stolen! I answered questions from a claim adjuster over the phone and all was cool! I was covered for any lost or stolen Jewelry. I had a special rider covering jewelery and fur. I still have the insurance to this day, it's on my homeowners policy! |

You need to make sure that you file a police report. And i believe that you will need proof of what was stolen. You will need to check into what your deductible is and what you coverage is. I know for a fact that the broken window should be covered |

Nope, homeowners insurance NEVER pays for "it all".
First of all, IF you have homeowners or renters policy, and IF that policy has theft coverage, it ALSO has a deductible. So, you add up your total losses, depreciate for age, subtract that deductible.
Second of all, there are built in limitations for some property - so it doesn't matter if she had $500 or $500,000 in cash there, the most the standard homeowners policy pays, for stolen cash (including coins, checks, etc) is $200. There's a limit to jewelry, too, of $1,000. Not per item, but total, unless you pay seperately for it.
The window, is likely under your deductible.

Pauly had the best answer and the correct one.
Write a list of the things stolen and give it to the claims adjuster. |

You will probably have some difficulty in getting your insurer to pay. How on earth will you prove that you had two thousand dollars in a closet ? (And why DID you stupidly have $2,000 in a closet?) Jewelry is only covered to a pre-determined limit, unless you submit appraisals and declare the items over and above the standard value amount.
Now you know why folks keep their money in banks, and why so many photograph each room of their house with their possessions. |
