Yes you can cancel your policy, by notifying them in writing. You do NOT get all the money back - there's a short rate cancellation charge, AND a cancellation fee when allowed by the state. The short rate is about a month's premium. The cancellation fee varies by state, but is typically $50.
Also, if you have 3 months with no insurance, you'll be considered high risk when you get back, and you'll pay A LOT more for your car insurance then.
I'd say, talk to your agent, but you ARE your own agent with Geico, and they're not going to help you out. But if you have a LOAN on your car, your lender will have a fit if you cancel, and penalize you heavily - and might repo the car. And if you don't, you're probably better off dropping all but the bare minimum coverages, to keep the policy active. |

if you're keeping the car, you still need comprehensive and liability on it in case someone vandalizes it while you're gone or gets hurt trying to steal it.what you're spending on insurance for those 3 months, you'll be saving in gas and wear and tear on car |

Don't cancel the policy. If the car will be parked / stored, and you are certain that it will not be driven at all while you are away, then you can call GEICO and ask to suspend all coverage except Comprehensive. They may ask you to send a written request to do so, but it will be well worth it. Your policy will be credited for the pro-rated cost of the suspended coverages. When you return, call your insurance company at least one day prior to driving the car & ask to have the suspended coverages restored. You definitely don't want to cancel the whole policy - you will be considered "high risk" when you attempt to get a new policy after having a lapse of coverage. |

Most insurance policies have a provision in them that allow for for a reduction in the insurance coverage. I.e. if you are going away for 3 months, you can have the collision cancelled for that period but keep coverage on for thieft of the car.
You can cancell completely and get a portion of the premium back. I would keep comprehensive coverage on though. |
