New Jersey is one of 5 states that mandates guaranteed issue individual health insurance. Other states allow underwriting, in other words, you can get a good affordable policy if you are healthy. What happens in NJ is that people don't buy insurance until they get sick, causing the rates to go up. The technical term is "adverse selection".

With health insurance, you get what you pay for. If you buy a "cheap" program over the internet, either you're being scammed, or you're buying into a discount plan (a list) that doesn't PAY anything.
Buy your health insurance through a local agent. They can help you weigh the deductible vs. premium thing. |
