Well, health insurance IS GOING to cost about $200 a month. That's just what it costs. You can get a major medical policy for about half that, but it will have a really big deductible, like $4,000, before it kicks in.

Besides that, there's Medicaid - and your income normally has to be under $700 a month, and you can't be a dependent of your parents, or THEIR income has to be pretty low, also.

look for a free clinic or one with a sliding fee scale (they charge based on income)

Health insurance costs money, so you can't actually have insurance without an income. Try to find a clinic in your area that treats low income people as mentioned above. Your local health department will be able to help. If you have a YWCA in your area, call them. They usually know what's available and are very compassionate. Note that is a 'W' not an 'M' in YWCA.

When you look for a job, make it your number 1 priority to find one that offers health insurance as a benefit. Also find out how long you'll have to work there before you become eligible for benefits - 3 - 6 months is the most common time frame.

Many jobs will try to hire a young person and not give them enough hours of work each week to qualify as full-time for benefits. Be absolutely sure you are taking a full-time job that will offer health insurance. Be prepared to pay a portion of the expense - not many places offer it completely free.
