And I know many insurance companies can either turn me down or charge me a lot for insurance because I have a pre-existing condition. Well, unless you live in a guaranteed issue state, you're going to get turned down. No company will voluntarily write an individual policy for someone with Crohn's.
You're going to have to get a job with a company that will get you on their group insurance policy. Walmart, UPS, and Panda Express come to mind. That's the ONLY way you'll find coverage under thousands a month.
**ah, that other answer reminded me. If you're coming off your parents' policy, you can probably get COBRA, and pay the premium out of pocket, for up to another 18 months. It will likely cost you around $350 a month or so, MUCH cheaper than premium in a guaranteed issue state. Not as cheap as if you got a part time job at Walmart.** |

I was in the same situation.
You will likely need to get on Cobra for a few months until you can find a job of your own. It won't be cheap but you have to do what you have to do for insurance.
Like others have said, try to get on with a big company that offers health benefits. |

Contact a local agent or broker and ask if there are companies that may cover you with this condition. Sometimes, they may impose a waiting period for coverage just for that condition. Unfortunately, COBRA would be very expensive-but another option for you. |
