Brandy H | How can I get my Social Security check switched over to my name from my mom's? |
I need to get my check switched into my name so I can have the money to move out of state. How can I switch everything over to my name and switch it over to a different state? Can I do this online? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Additional Details When I added my details to this question before, I guess I didn't explain it very clearly. I am a blind person, and I live here with my mom. I am a legal adult, and I would now like to get my check switched over to my name so I can have the money to move out of state. I also need to get it switched over to another state. How do I do this, and can I fill out the necessary forms online? Any other additional help is greatly appreciated! Thanks again in advance! |

You can't. Social security isn't transferrable. Sorry.
See, if it's YOURS, and you're getting it because you are a surviving minor, it goes to your guardian to pay for your upkeep, which means, you can't move out of state without running away. And if you're NOT a minor, you're not eligible for it any more. |

If you are a legal adult, contact your local Social Security office. If you are not a legal adult, you can't. |

For a blind person, you write amazingly well. Only if your mom's ss# were changed to yours, could you do that, and that cannot be done. |

"You have the right to receive your own Social Security check unless SSA has reason to believe you may spend your money in a way that might hurt you.
If you have a representative payee because of a physical or a mental disability, in order to become your own payee, you must show SSA that you are now mentally and physically able to handle your money yourself. You could provide:
A doctor's statement that there has been a change in your condition and that the doctor believes you are able to care for yourself; or
An official copy of a court order saying that the court believes that you can take care of yourself; or
Other evidence that shows your ability to take care of yourself.
Note: Be advised that if SSA believes your condition has improved to the point that you no longer need a payee, we may reevaluate your eligibility for benefits." |
