Sally N | How can I insurance a single item of jewellery that is worth £35,000 ? |
|

It is very very difficult to insure a single item of jewellery in isolation. I know of only one company who do it. They are called T H March. I am not sure of the premium they would charge or the cover they give.
As a broker myself, I would recommend insuring it under a "high net worth" household policy. The cover that you get is going to be far superior to a bog standard household policy and surprisingly it won't cost a lot more.
A high net worth insurer will let you use your own jeweller to repair or replace the item if it is damaged and in some circumstances will allow a cash settlement if the items is lost or stolen.
I suggest that you speak to your own broker. We normally recommend policies underwritten by insurers such as Hiscox's, Chubb Insurance, Sterling and Oak. |

Any insurance broker worth his salt would be able to arrange this for you. |

Ad it to your house contents policy. If you have not got one then you should get one anyway. It will need to be declared as an all risks item so that it is insured at home and out of the home. You will need to get a valuation from a reputable jeweller and submit it to your insurers. The value will then be updated by a factor every year on renewal. |

It can be added to your home contents insurance, but you will need to get it valued by a reputable jeweller. Be warned, they will charge you a percentage of it's value, so you're looking at a hefty fee. |

You would have to contact a specialist jewellery insurer. There are plenty about, but http://www.ellisdavid.com/highvalue.html comes highly reccommended. |

Get several quotes from insurance firms off the internet would be the best and easiest way. |
