Study hard, take part in extracurricular activities like debate or athletics (to build your teamwork skills) and start saving now. Whatever money you get (whether from allowance or chores), put at least 5% of it into a savings account and DO NOT withdraw it for anything; when you get your first job, keep saving as much as possible. By the time you get out of college, you should have a good sum for a downpayment on a house or something similar -- remember, the more you pay in cash, the less debt you'll build. Try to avoid credit card debt at all costs.

Good luck!

Well, Joseph,

I would say the most important thing is to establish quantifiable goals and set your sites on something you enjoy doing. Learn as much as you can about it with the objective of getting into that field some day and direct all of your efforts in achieving that goal. That is not to say forsaking all fun and enjoyment in life. High school is important and teaches you to work with other people as well as tolerance for those you find annoying. Both useful skills. But you need to enjoy your time there as well.

As long as you stay focused and find something you really enjoy, you will be way ahead of the game. The more you love it, the better you will be at it and the easier it will be to stay successful and become an expert. (they make all the money by the way). Do what you enjoy and the money will come.

Don't pick a field because you think it pays well. You will be miserable

Joesph,

you ask a multimllion dollar '?' that can't be answered in 15 minutes.
suggest u make frequent visits to library (not internet) to find and read books on successful people to find out what they did right and wrong then do not do what they did wrong.
write a goal plan for urself 10yrs 15yrs 20yrs 25yrs. apply urself to it. it will change.
understand college is not the answer all the time. most folks will change jobs 5 -20times b4 'retire' ; careers 3-7 times b4 'retire'. this is the nature of the business world u have coming.

Make a specific plan. Be very specific. Follow your plan by working hard. Use it as your driving force.

BTW: Now would be a good time to learn investing. Once you start making money you'll have a jump start above all your peers.

You can start by reading the autobiography of Benjamin Franklin. He was one of the most successful self-made men in history, and this book will teach you what you need for a successful life.

I like to consider myself very sucessful for a young adult. I don't know what you consider any life to be insured, but I can tell you where I am at now. I am 21, married by choice, no children, a dog-2cats, I own a home with the hubby, we both have jobs that pay 16+/hr, and have very little debt. We are quite happy and live comfortably. We both came from 2 different backgrounds.

I came from a military family. I scrimpt and saved all my money from 13yoa until I turned 18. I saved my babysitting, dog walking, birthday, christmas, etc money. At 18 I used it to pay for half of my 3000.00 car, paid for car insurance, and my dad paid for the other half of the car. I got a full time job as a dishwasher/prep cook, and paid my dad back for the car. I then worked at walmart for a raise in pay and better benefits. Once again saving money and attending community college part time. I then went on to a police academy and became a law enforcement officer.
The hubby came from a military dad, and they made ends meet. He dropped out of high school, and got his GED. He then went to work full time at fast food joints to help pay household bills. The hubby then got old enough to go to work under his father's wing learning how to install fire alarms and security alarms. He has never been to college.
You are now in middle school. Research different job forces you may be interested in and job shadow them. Figure out you want to do in life. Some jobs require on the job experience over college degrees while others require certifications and degrees. Once you know what you want to do you will have a huge head start. You won't be changing majors 3-4 times wasting valuable time and money. Secondly, learn about balancing a check book and try to put money into a bank where the savings accounts collect interest. But no future is ever insured to be happy and bump free. You will run into down times. It will be a matter of how you handle them that allows you to bounce back and be independant.

Study hard, go to a good college for more than a 4 year degree. You should go to grad school, too.

Make sure you major in something you like. That way you will be happy and successful.

Learn hard, work smart.

You can't GUARANTEE happy bright stable future. You CAN learn as much as you can, work as smart as you can, avoid drugs, alcohol, debt, and other stupid decisions (oh, want a blueprint for happiness? Go to your local church. All those "out of touch" rules for moral living, MAKE YOU HAPPIER WHEN YOU FOLLOW THEM).

set short term, mid term and long term goals. Review these frequently to see if you are on task. If so stay the course if not, make adjustments to get you back to where you need to be. You can do it kid..

I think the key is really not to worry too much, but make small goals and make sure that you're determined enough to reach them, even if it means that you have to cross many obstacles. But also make sure that you're doing what you love the most, something that you have a passion for, because that's likely to be something you're going to spend your whole life with.
