How can a person not in college get health insurance?
I am not going to be in college anytime soon but I'm not going to have any insurance for my health at all. That means I'll have to pay a lot of money for my pills, psychiatrist and psychologist. How can I get insurance if I'm not going to be a student?

My suggestion is trying to absorb as much information as you can before making up your mind, here    www.HealthInsuranceIdeas.info    is a good one.

go to the county welfare office and see if you can get aid if not ask them for help to find affordable health insurance

It sounds like you have a preexisting condition. See if you can get/stay on your parent's health plan, otherwise start looking for jobs with benefits. Individual plans will likely not cover you.

You can get a job, and get insurance through your job.

Theoretically, you can buy a private policy, however, most states would allow the insurance company to flat out not cover you, or exclude coverage for your preexisting condition. The states that would require you to be issued a policy, can price it accordingly - high risk pricing, which you likely won't be able to afford, if you have no job.

Alternatively, if you are freshly coming off your parents' policy through their employer, you can take "cobra" coverage for the next 18 months - if their employer is cobra eligible - and get to keep the same coverage, but you have to foot the bill. It would likely cost you around $400 a month - WAY cheaper than a private policy that would cover your mental illness.

Caveat Emptor
Being a student has nothing to do with it. One option is purchase an individual health plan policy. Another possibility is to check to see if you can remain on your parent's policy (you don't state your age).

You can discover your options at http://www.healthcare.gov/.

Also did you know you can now--thanks to health care reform--stay on your parents' insurance until age 26?

.
Get a job that offers insurance, go to Blue Cross and Blue Shield and purchase a plan, or go without. Those are your options.

Get a job and you wont need a shrink. If you have any parents under the new law you can be included on their policy and you don't have to be a student after September this year, or when your insurance company plans to do it. Otherwise, you can buy your own insurance policy if you have no parents. If you are under 21 and low income you can apply for Medicaid at your county office. Other than that, when you need a prescription or get sick, you go to a local community clinic in your town. Look in the phone book or call hospitals and ask if they have a low income clinic. This has nothing to do with being a student or not.

Since the new Obama law you can stay under your parents plan until you are 26 years old...I'd suggest doing that if you are in fact under that age. Otherwise the best option for you is to, like the rest of these posts say, get a job with benefits!
