Because the number one loss for homeowners policies - the most money paid out - is for dog bite claims. And pitt bulls are one of the five or so breeds that have the most bites.
In other words, they've decided they can't charge high enough rates to cover the claims, so they don't want to insure anyone with a pitt bull. |

because that breed is known to or is at high risk for biting or hurting other ppl. The insurance covers not only your home and property but personal injury or injury to ppl caused by your or on your property. Just like having a pool--more likely for someone to drown there than house without. Yours is -- someone is more likely to get bitten or hurt by that dog and if they go to the hospital, they expect You to pay the bill (or your insurance company). and they Will sue you for a lot of money cause they know your insurance will have to pay. So they charge you more cause you are at a higher risk for payout. Just like me and my health insurance. I have fibromyalgia and am probably 10x more likely to go to the dr than someone without fibro so my ins is more (or nonexistent!).. Hope that makes sense and helps you. |

They are considered a dangerous breed. While any dog can bite, they are one of the breeds that are capable of maiming or killing someone, especially a child. They have an extremely strong jaw & lock on to their victim. They are also very protective of their family & will attack what THEY feel could be a threat.
So, when another breed bites, they insurance company may only pay a few thousand dollars on a small bite, if someone is bit by a pit bull, the company could be looking at several hundred thousand dollars. It is just not worth it for them, so they don't write it.
Some states will not allow dog exclusions on anything but a surplus lines policy.
Foremost MAY write a policy if the dog has NEVER bitten or shown any aggressive behavior. |

Get a different dog -- maybe one that is not so hungry to bite people or children. They are a dangerous dog. The city if Miami Florida has an ordance -- no one is allowed to own or possess a pit bull in Dade county. The fines are expensive and the possibility of spending one year in jail... So now that you are a responsible home owner get a kinder -- gentle dog to have around the house.to play with... |

Can I just say how ignorant you all sound? Have you ever personally been attacked by a pit? The dog makes the owner nasty, not the individual dog. Yes, I am a pit bull owner and I find it highly disgusting that because of what people think they know about the breed they judge ALL bully breeds unfairly. Frankly it's disgusting. Pit bulls are just like any other dog, they want to be loved, snuggled and treated with respect. I think if you looked into the history of the pitbull you would see some very positive things. Please realign your thinking against a breed that catches an unfair break and actually educate yourselves on what the breed really is. There is a show called Pitbulls and Parolees that does an amazing job of showing the TRUE nature of the breed. |
