SQD | How do I find a good insurance agent? Should I bother or go straight for an insurance company? |
It's cheaper, and my agent is not doing anything to help me in my current situation. |

I recommend talking to an independent insurance broker. A broker works with several insurance companies and can find the best rates and coverage for you. To find a qualified insurance broker, log on to a website like http://www.lifeinsurancewiz.com (or one of the sites below, depending on the type of insurance you are seeking) and fill out a form requesting a free quote. Your information will be sent to a broker in your area who will contact you. There is no obligation, so give it a try! |

What kind of insurance are you looking for? |

Well, if you go straight to a company, you're looking at a bunch of legwork to compare pricing and coverages - and if you thought your agent was bad before, wait until YOU have to act as your own agent!
A GOOD agent is worthwhile. Best way to find a GOOD local agent - talk to your friends, neighbors and family, and ask them for referrals. |

Talk to family, friends, and co-workers, see if they can recommend one. Look up one with experience, that is an independent agent. He/she should be able to find you competitive rates. |

The thing about agents is that they can look at many companies at one time and try to place you. If you call the insurance company directly you don't get the benefit of comparison and a wider market. You can find other agents if this one doesn't work for you. Look in the yellow pages under insurance and find yourself an agent that deals with the companies that you are interested in and let them do the work. |

Typically, insurance rates are filed by the various insurance companies that are licensed to do business in your State, and they vary from State to State.
The best thing to do is call a LOCAL independent agent. Just look in the phone book for the PIA or Big I (Trusted Choice) logos and you will find a professional licensed agent that will be able to help you solve your insurance problems, and give you rate comparisons of several different companies.
An independent insurance agent will normally have a dozen different companies and if he cannot help you, he should be networked with other local agents that can.
Good luck, drive RESPONSIBLY and I hope this helps |

Definately go through an agent. They not only can get a whole bunch of companies so you dont have to do the legwork. but they will deal with that company if you need it. like in an accident, or a home insurance claim. They know what to do, and what's the best for you. A good agent is easy to find - either through friends, neighbors, relatives. You can usually get a better rate through an agent also. Progressive is cheaper through an agent than on your own through the website. They know the different discounts that you would be eligible for and the coverages that you do and don't need. Agents go to classes a few times a year to be up on the markets. It's well worth it. ..... find a new agent if you're not happy with the one you have. He can have you sign a form to have your current policies moved to his office if he carries the same companies. |
