How do I find a reputable independent insurance agent in NYC?
I received some great advice about coverage on this site for which I thank you all. I used the website ehealthinsurance.com to compare plans but would like to talk to a person as well. Can any recommend a site I could search for an indep. insurance agent in NYC? Or recommend anyone? Is there a charge for a consultation and/or plan comparisons?
The easiest thing to do is to log on to a website like http://www.healthinsurancewiz.com and fill out a form requesting a quote. Your info will be sent to a health insurance broker in your area who will contact you. A broker works with several health insurance companies and can find the best deal for you. Brokers need referrals and a good reputation to stay in business, so they only work with reputable companies. There is no charge for the service and no obligation to buy. Good luck!

I would recommend talking to whomever writes your homeowners / auto insurance and go from there. If they can not recommend anyone that you are comfortable with, speak with your friends and family. If this does not work, you can go to iiaba.org which is a web site for independent insurance agencies. You should be able to find an independent insurance agent in your area through this site.

There shouldn't be a charge for a consult, quotes, or comparisons.
My BEST recommendation, is talk to neighbors, coworkers & friends, ask them if they have a great agent they can recommend to you.

Ask your friends who their agent is and if they like him/her. Web sites are great tools to get information, but you need to find an agent who has a reputation of being trustworthy. Best of luck.
