If a uk company has liabilty insurance then they should be displaying the actual certificate or at least a copy of it.
It should be displayed at a point where it can be seen. |

They must display their Employers Liability certificate so this shoulld be hanging somewhere on the wall on their premises.
PL does not have a cert, but they should be able to show you the policy schedule which will have current cover dates and a policy number clearly visible on it.
If they cannot or will not show you either, I personally woud decline to deal with them. Drop them a line with a deadline for suppling this information. The kind of things to ask for are:
Name of Insurer
Name and address of insurance broker (if applicable)
FSA registration number of both the above
Policy number(s)
Start and end date of cover
Limit if indemnity
If they won't give it, steer well clear. |

There is no such thing as a "Public Liability Certificate" but if they have Employer's Liability cover, a Certificate will have been issued by the insurer and must be displayed at their premises under UK Law.
In any event, they should be able to provide you with a copy of their insurance schedule which will detail all the operative covers in force.
If they can't (or won't), I'd be suspicious of dealing with them. |

If they have public and employers liability insurance you are issued with a certificate which they would be able to show you. It sounds as if they do not have it. |

There is no central registry.
There is no requirement for a company to have public liability insurance and there is no certificate of public liability insurance.
All companies have to have employers liability insurance and a copy of the certificate must be displayed at every location where the company operates.
Please note that this cover will be of no use to you whatsoever as you are not an employee of the company.
Perhaps yo caould ask them to provide details of their insurance broker and you could contact them. - Make the form look official. |
