You're not eligible for unemployment if you quit. If you're fired in bad terms most likely your employer will deny the unemployment claim. They are always notified when someone applies for unemployment and have the option of contesting the claim. |

In just about all the states, to be eligible you must be out of work through no fault of your own.Therefore, if you quit, you do not qualify.
If you lose your job due to lack of work or downsizing, most likely you will be eligible.
If you are fired for, say, chronic absenteeism or misconduct, that would up to the employer.
When you file for unemployment, the state sends the employee a form, which asks why you no longer work there. Often,. if you were terminated for something like excess absenteeism, the employer will be satisfied just to be rid of you that they won't block your unemployment.
You can always apply, in fact, you'd be foolish not to.The worst thing that can happen is that your claim would be rejected.

No, if you quit you can't get unemployment. I believe if they list it as being "layed off" or "downsizing" you might be able to (don't quote me on this) but if you're just fired. I don't believe so, either. I believe unemployment is to help you get back on your feet. because of an injury or any other reason that keeps you from supporting your family. |
