Heraclio Inez | How do I say no to relative trying to sell me insurance? |
Relative is trying to sell me insurance and I'm not interested. I want to tell him no without feelings getting hurt. Any suggestions? |

I would say, "I have made it a policy to never buy items from relatives as I do not want to put the pressures of being upset in a business transaction to potentially interfere with a family relationship." |

A flat out "no thank you" should work best. If you are honest about your wishes, that should hurt their feelings a LOT less than if you lie and make up excuses.
Here's my take on it. Unless this person is giving you a better reason to switch from your current provider, then you haven't got a reason to take his offer. In other words, why should you pay more, or accept less coverage on your insurance, just because he is related to you? If this relative can't see that, then, he has no place in the business world.
You don't have to tell him THAT part. Let him figure that out for himself. He should make his pitch to you in the same way he would to ANYBODY else. If he can't sell to you in those terms, he won't be able to sell to anyone else. |

If he is just starting out, let him make a presentation for practice. You might learn something and save some money. Even if he has been around, let him show you what he knows. |

I'm an agent myslef. And yes the first people we go to are our families. First I would ask you this: Have you listend to them? Is the resason that you are not interested because, you dont like what he's offering or that you cant afford it? What ever the resaon like that then be honest. You are not saying no to them once youve been given a presetation. You are saying no to the product. If you wont even let them sow you then you are saying no to them personally and you may hurt there feelings. They are family they want honesty. But if you havnt even looked at what they are offering I bet you have hurt there feelings. Let them show you. Atleast for practice sakes if they are a new agent you will be halping them. And if they are not a new agent they will still feel better that you gave them the time of day. |

Say what my family always say to me.... "sorry, but I would feel bad if I had to file a claim".
Especially if it was the type of claim where there were issues of dispute or non coverage. It could negatively effect the whole family. |

I agree with "dcholste..."!
Whether you buy insurance from them or not is not going to make or break them.
I would simply tell them that you don't feel that this a good idea and hope that they can respect that. As an insurance agent for over thirty years I have never asked to write a family members insurance unless they approached me. Even then I wasn't comfortable. There's too much private information! |

Just say no.
He sure isn't worried about offending you, by asking you to buy!! |

Convince him you either don't have that need or you can satisfy it elsewhere more efficiently. After all, this is a financial decision, not a family one. |
