How do i cancel an auto ins policy?broker was dishonest about what i was signing, policy 1 day old, help?
broker gave short description of each page before signing, got home, read each page throughly, (what i should have done in first place)and find out i was signing for membership in motor club, , fee was added into quote, said pymts were lower if debited from ckng acct, find out $5 fee added onto premium, every month

Go back to the broker, tell him you want to cancel it. Or call the company. IN both cases, you'll probably have to sign a "lost policy release" form.

You might have a hard time getting all your $$ back, they can keep a month's premium.

Also, you might want to call the state insurance department to complain to them about the broker's actions.

The $5 fee should be auotmaticly added into your premium. But,if you don't want to be enrolled in the motor club call and ask if it can be removed if they won't remove it find other insurance immediately and cancel the policy. If you get a fee for cancelling call the company's 800 number and file a complaint they will probaly remove the fee for you.

Do four things:

You cannot be forced to pay for something sold to you by using deceptive tactics. If you are paying via a regular debit on a bank a/c, contact your bank and tell them that you do not authorise any further payments to that co or agent. If you paid by cheque/check, contact the bank and put a stop on it immediately.

Contact the insurance company direct and inform them that the broker used false and/or misleading statements to persuade you to sign the policy application. They are well aware that few people actually read all the fine print in such documents, and they also know that some brokers are not playing by the rules. If they seem reluctant to take action against the broker, see my next point.

Call or visit a major, trusted brokerage and tell them what happened and what you've done. Arrange new insurance TODAY so that you are covered. Also -- if the insurance company of your crooked broker is reluctant to take action, ask this reputable brokerage for advice about making a formal complaint to the authorities who deal with matters of crooked agents. Any honest brokerage will be happy to advise you. Believe me, they want the crooks out of the industry too.

Finally, tell your friends/work colleagues of your experience with the crooked agent so that they will not do any business with that agency.

Good luck and be assertive. You have your rights and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Call the company directly, not the broker.

Don't pay the premium, the company would cancel the policy for non-payment, then get insured by another company.

Did you get a discount on the insurance for joining the auto club? Just request it to be cancelled, don't stop payiing any premiums, that will make you look bad, put it in writing as to why you are cancelling, they may try to charge you a "short rate" penalty, this subtract a fee from your original payment so you don't get the full amount back, don't let them do this, but first see if the insurance is discounted for joining the auto club, you may be saving a lot of money because of the auto club discount.

Depending on the insurance company, you might be able to cancel the policy flat by not accepting it. You'll need to sign a lost policy release and make the effective date of cancellation the day the policy went into force. Here's a question for you...did you let your other policy lapse by getting this one? If so, you do NOT want to cancel flat as you will then be uninsured. If they don't let you cancel it flat, you'll be cancelled short rate which will let the company keep more of your down payment. May I ask what company this was?

In most states all insurance policies have a "30 day Free Look Cancellation Policy" This means that you have 30 days after you receive the actual policy to cancel and get your money back. It should be on the first page of your policy. Mail a letter to the company directly telling them that you are using your right to return the policy under the Free Look provision. You will get your money back.
