You have to be added in their policy.
You can compare how their quotes will change after this in internet, for example here - car-insurance.66ghz.com

It really depends on the state you're in. Every state has different regulations. But typically as a permit driver you don't need to be rated as a principal driver on a vehicle until you're licensed. With my company as long as all the vehicles and all the drivers are listed on the policy, any driver can drive any vehicle in the household. When you get your license you can then be rated on the lowest rated vehicle (i.e. older car without comp and collision).
And in my state the insurance is on the vehicle not the person driving it. However, being 16 most insurance companies won't write you a policy by yourself...especially if the car is still titled to your parents.

What you need to do is direct these questions to your parents.

You should go under their insurance since you only have a permit, and you need a licensed driver to have an insurance policy. Try having them shop around, or speak with an insurance broker in the area or online. You dont need your own insurance to drive it, but you will need to be listed on their policy. You have to drive with a licensed driver anyway.

Yes, unless they retitle the car to you, they will keep that policy on the old car, and add you as a driver.

FULL COVERAGE does NOT mean you are fully covered, or that they are, also. Any insurance company is going to require that, in order for a household member to be covered, they must be listed on the policy, once they have an actual license.
