I was born without four permanent teeth and there are no insurance companies that will cover the implant surgery or even a less functional option of replacement because they say it is "cosmetic." I feel like there is an obvious difference between REPLACING teeth and implanting teeth I never had. Can this be addressed through an appeal and is there really even a chance they will change their minds? I really don't know much about insurance companies and how these things work. thanks.

I agree braces are cosmetic when used typically to simply straighten misaligned teeth. Mine were a tool to prepare for the implants and hold fake teeth in place. But I guess the insurance company won't care huh? darnit.

I didn't think about the argument that I have lived this long without them and won't die without them as a reason to not pay for them. And I can eat without them, just not like normal people. They are my incisors and are in front so I guess that doesn't help me much either. I wonder if they were molars if it would be different....hmm.

Again, I know nothing about insurance companies and how they justify ways to not help but I thought "pre-existing" referred to acquired conditions and not congenital defects.

I heard one case where a lady fought it and the insurance company did pay for it but I don't know the specifics.
