My Mom thought she had insurance and it was not mature. She was very sick for months and since I am an only child I was the primary care giver. I know she died with the peace that I would not be burdened with the bill, but I am. I don't make alot of money and I am worred to death about paying this bill. Contact the insurance commissoner's office in the state where your mother resided when she purchased the insurance. You can file a written complaint and ask that it investigate the legality of the insurer's claim denial. My sympathies are with you.
You're going to have to cut costs as much as possible.
I would ask for help from her siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews, and if you belong to a church ask the pastor. |

If you cannot afford a funeral, here's what you might do. Have the body cremated (About $350 in Massachusetts; ask for quote) and placed in a cheaper urn. Have a memorial service at your church (about $100 donation at a Catholic Church), and either scatter the ashes in your mom's favorite place, or save up the money and bury your mother in a plot once you can afford it. My mother is saving to bury my grandfather this way. Hope this helps. My sympathies are with you. |
