I specialize in this for Idaho/Washington. This is called disability income insurance. Try to find an A rated company with a good policy. Those Aflac policys have too many holes

You can only get AFLAC disability insurance if it's offered through your employer. That is the only loop, I know I'm an AFLAC agent. Otherwise hopefully your employer offers some other kind of short or long term disability. If your unable to work permanently you could check into Social Security.

Aflac specializes in this

There are different types of insurances to put in place to help cover bills/mortage/living expenses etc if you get sick, hurt, or die.
If its to cover a mortgage your financial institution should offer a product called loan cover - designed to pay out the entire mortgage if you are unable to work due to serious illness/injury.
Otherwise there is a thing called income protection - pays up to 75% of your regular income in the event of illness/injury right up to age 65 - if you choose this in the specialised policy.
Critical Illness Insurance is a lump sum payment when contracting a critical illness i.e. stroke, heart attack some cancers etc.
Total and Permament Disability Insurance is also a lump sum payment if you become total and permanently disabled i.e. lose a leg, arm sight etc.
Life insurance - pretty self explanatory, if you die a lump sum is paid to your beneficiaries.
You can organise these through an insurance broker, financial planner or try asking your bank.
Interesting to know that critical illness is the most claimed on (except for of course income protection). THe amounts of cover would depend on level of debt, and your financial goals i.e. do you want to support dependants and to what age etc.

Financial Assistance and Other Resources for People With Cancer:Cancer imposes heavy economic burdens on both patients and their families. For many people, a portion of medical expenses is paid by their health insurance plan. For individuals who do not have health insurance or who need financial assistance to cover health care costs, resources are available, including Government-sponsored programs and services supported by nonprofit organizations. Cancer patients and their families should discuss any concerns they may have about health care costs with their physician, medical social worker, or the business office of their hospital or clinic.

In 1946, Congress passed a law that gave hospitals, nursing homes and other health facilities grants and loans for construction and modernization. In return, they agreed to provide a reasonable volume of services to persons unable to pay and to make their services available to all persons residing in the facility’s area. The program stopped providing funds in 1997, but about 300 health care facilities nationwide are still obligated to provide free or reduced-cost care.
