First off, to Edgar who answered first "its not a complicated job" ... any agent or insurance professional worth their salt will realize it is not a cake job. To be an asset to your company and your policyholders, you will be very well versed and stay updated on all laws and mandates that affect the various aspects of insurance.
Depending on the role that you want to play in the insurance industry, whether it be in an agent capacity or underwriting, service or claims, there are various avenues to explore.
What I recommend you do, is research some companies that you think you may be interested in and search their websites and look into the open positions and apply from there. If you are interested in an agent position, I would recommend that you visit local agencies of various companies and express your interest. By getting into an agency setting you can gain a wealth of knowledge and obtain your state license. Then, you can determine if you would like to branch out with your own agency or go into an operations capacity.
Either way, you have a wealth of knowledge and experience to take to either position and you will be better equipped to do your job. |

If you have a friend already in the insurance field, may be your own agent ,they can advise you. Insurance companies are always looking for people to train . Is not as easy as some people think, but you can make a good income and have good benefits. One advise, don't try to take this as a part time is really a full job |

Call Your Local Department of Insurance. Tell Them what type of insurance your are interested in, such as sales, like auto, health, Life insurance ect... They will inform you about the test and small classes, to take to get licensed. You do need a license to really get into to the field of insurance. I am a Insurance Broker I shop around on the computer and I can give insurance Quotes on the spot. You might be interested in being in the field and estimating how much money it will take to repair a car or truck, or damages to a home or business. Life insurance is good to sale, because once you make the sale, and they keep up there payments, you do not have to do much servicing, just a nice check in the mail without a lot of drama! Find out what areas of insurance you might be interested in, and the Department of insurance will lead you the rest of the way. It''s usually a small investment such as fees, fingerprints, criminal history and a small 1 or 2 day course. Total depending to the field of insurance bet.$350-500.00. To make thousands!!!! |

Most people "dumb" into it - taking a job out of desperation, that actually works.
It's easier (and more fun) to take a job at an agency, than at a company.
The good thing about the insurance field - is if you work hard, are reasonably intelligent, and can think well, you don't need a college degree to get ahead. |

It depends on what type of insurance you are interested in and what you want to do for them, Personal Lines, 3rd party administrator, field work, inside, audit, underwriter, filings, compliance, sell insurance, and many others. I would recommend CLAIMS as it is one of the more interesting jobs and pays very well. And is VERY COMPLICATED as well as it can be very stressful. Not everyone is cut out for it. Research the positions and decide do want a career or a job. If a job then work in their customer service area or mail room, If a career then look to underwriting, claims, agents. legal, compliance, auditing. Decide and then look for trainee positions and apply. |
