On your renter's or homeowners policy, they may ask you if you have any 'furs, firearms, or jewelry' or something along those lines. If they don't ask, it WON'T be covered, you HAVE to mention it when signing up for the policy...or if it's an existing policy, you need to call them and put it on. It doesn't cost much at all.
They'll ask for the proof of value or whatever it's called, if it's a diamond ring or similar ring of high value. You should've gotten something like this when you bought the ring, stating the gem's carats, clarity, yada yada. That will be the proof of value, and they'll need a copy of that. |

You have to know how much it costs in order to insure it. Call your homeowner's insurance agent to insure it. Not only will THEY need to know the value, you will also have to get it appraised and turn in your appraisal paperwork to them. So, first take your ring to a jewelry store and they will appraise it for you (for a small fee). Then you mail that in along with a photo of the ring to your agent. If you are a renter and not a homeowner you will need renter's insurance and then your ring plus all your other valuuables will be covered under the policy. |

You can have your jewelry insured at State Farm, which is a well known auto insurance. They insure personal items too.
