How does health ins work?
I am trying to get health insurance, and i am young and mostly healthy. Not pregnant, and will only really be going to the doctor for an annual check up, and an annual well woman's exam. The ins offered with my job is HMO and will cost me $143 a month. I will have a $20 copay for annual physicals and $35 copay for my annual well woman's exam. Does that sound good? All the independant plans I see online talk about deductables, when do you pay that? What does it mean when there are $5000 deductables as well as $30 copays? I need help!! Thanks :)

i pay $52.36 every paycheck for my health insurance...and all of my copays are $20. sounds like your job doesn't have the best insurance...but it's probably better than trying to get some kind of personal health insurance (especially if a deductible is involved...).

The HMO your employer is offering is good. Take it. Deductibles are the amount of money you pay out of your pocket before the insurance covers you. You can have in and out of network deductibles which means that even though you are using in network (participating)providers you still must meet the deductible (in your instance $5000) once you hit the deductible you are covered at the copay.

Typically there are copay for doctor visits. Your plan is reasonable. A deductible usually applies for inpatient and/or outpatient procedures. This means you are responsible for the deductible and co-insurance (a percentage of the remaining bill after you've paid the deductible amount) amounts in the event you are admitted to the hospital. I recommend that you check out ehealthinsurance.com as it may be cheaper than your company plan if you just want minimal coverage and are willing to risk taking on the cost of a catastrophic event.

$5000 deductible is high and I think $143 a month is high for 1 person. I pay about $160 for me and my daughter. But that's probably the cheapest you will find, if that is through your employer.

My deductible is $600 through my employer. That means I am responsible for the first $600 worth of medical bills and the insurance will cover the rest.
