There are two kinds: Prepaid legal services, which is NOT insurance, is NOT regulated by any authority, and USUALLY is not a good deal, as they don't do family law or criminal defense, or help you sue someone without a contingency fee (it's good for wills & estate planning, that's about it, IMO).
Or, liability insurance, which pays your legal defense costs for suits covered as described, under a particular policy. Your local, independent agent can help you out with that. |

I believe its the pre-paid you're talking about? It works as you pay in along with many others and then supposedly when you need a lawyer to take care of a ticket or something they'll do it and supposedly you are covered. Just drive better and not get tickets. I think the risk to you and reward to insurance company is the the cost to you outweighs how much you actually use it and benefit from it
I would check out Clarkhoward.com, a well respected finance guru, as I believe I've heard him say it's not to your benefit to have it. |

Best bet is to call in Independent Insurance Agent in your area and let them know what you're looking for exactly. Fine someone you can trust and know that will get you taken care of covered correctly! |

the same as any other insurance. The mass of people pool their money to help when their other premium payers need it for legal services subject to the terms of the agreement (policy). There are several reputable company's out there, but they are usually seperate from the major insurance company's. Check out their ratings with the Insurance comissioners office in your state. |
