How flexible are life insurance quotes. Can I negotiate with company for a better rate.?
I got a quote for my wife and me for life insurance (20 years/400K each). I would like to negotiate a better rate with the broker (assuming same coverage). Can it be done, or are the rates fixed, is there room to negotiate. we did the blood work and were offered standard rates.

Doing the Right Thing
Your rate can not be negotiated when the underwriting is done. If you don't like your rate, you can refuse to accept the policy within 30 days and there will be a refund of premiums.

What you can negotiate is going through different companies. Shop around. Make sure you check the financial strength ratings from AM Best!

You can ask for a higher premium, a different payment schedule, or try and find a different company.

Try http://www.quoteandsave.com for insurance comparisons.

No, the rates are not flexible.

If you were quoted standard rates, that's what you get, and that's probably your rating anywhere you go...Underwriting is not very flexible, and it doesn't sound like you are going to get preferred status...You can shop around for different products, perhaps...A lower face amount will change your rate dramatically...Is there a specific need for such a large face amount? Ask if your premium would change if you added some exclusions...

I think they are pretty firm on the rate once you get it. Some companies are better than others though. Try this link for a quote and good luck!

when you are quoted rates for a single/family policy, the rates will be standard and no room for negotiating. if you were asking for rates on a group plan, meaning your an employer of a company then you can negotiate. for an individual policy you take what they quote.

No, life insurance quotes aren't flexible at all. What you CAN do, is ask your broker for quotes with a different carrier, or go to another broker and ask for quotes.

smcdevitt2001
I think they have a chart to go by and must stay within the perimeters of that chart. They are not very flexible I'm afraid, sorry.

as flexible as the commander in chief!

Not unless you are buying a really big policy, and you want to agree to living in the safe at their office!
