I was only a property insurance adjuster for 2 years, but my experience in hearing about and settling claims, is that although there is some legal deadline for resolution of a claim, and the insurance companies I worked for seem to care about that, legal action is rarely effective against the insurance companies. However, as previously mentioned, talking with a supervisor might be effective because they do not like claims just sitting there when they are partially judged by the amount of claims they close. Often, there are alot of claims to deal with, and you get people who think theirs is the only claim, and you get this attitude of "I paid into this insurance for how many years and this is my first claim. You people are jerking me around." That is nonsense in 99% of the cases I believe.
Some threaten to change companies, and my experience is that no one cares if you do (no offense if u were going to threaten that). I believe your claim is just going through the "processing." YES, I agree it has taken too long, but it is really possible that there are only 1-2 people who do personal property claims, which usually means determining the value of each item at the time of the loss, obviously if the fire is covered, and the first thing often requires verifying information you gave such as the value of each item, and of course any policy limits. YES, talk with a supervisor, but also know that they are probably being honest. LAST, you might be glad to hear this. Contrary to popular belief, my experience is that insurance companies error on the side of the customer, and GIVE money if there is a gray area. I had a personal property boat claim and alot of the stuff that was approved by my boss was to stop arguments over little petty things that meant alot to the boat owner.
I hope that helps.

I work for an insurance company & i can tell you it takes longer than some people think. The inspections, the investigations...police reports, policy checks, figuring out how much damages you have & how much it all appraises for....
HOWEVER, if you keep hearing the check is in the mail then it should be in the mail....that's not right. Speak w/ their supervisor to get it resolved, and if your tired of the bs w/ this adjuster you can always have your claim reassigned to a different adjuster. |
