My sense of responsibility requires me to have insurance to safeguard my future and my family's with our life insurance policies which cost us $250 per month. By law, we must carry liability insurance on each of our cars we drive down the road. I choose to carry optional higher liability limits, uninsured motorist coverage, broad form collision, comprehensive, towing, and rental on both of my vehicles which costs $200 per month to be safe. I carry a mortgage on the house, so that requires me to have homeowners insurance in the amount of the loan which costs $800 per year. My health insurance is $85 per month that I have chosen as an optional coverage to avoid any large out of pocket future medical expenses by not having health insurance/dental/vision to be safe. I also carry a $1 million personal umbrella to be safe in today's sue happy society to protect my assets which costs $150 per year. The companies that I use are tailored to me by my insurance agent who customized it to me after doing a thorough risk management assessment on me and my plan is reviewed annually in my agent's office. Find a local insurance agent who meets with their clients to do risk assessments and is actively involved in the community and you will find an agent who will meet your needs. |

Go door to door and ask your neighbors. Insurance is like your wardrobe - HIGHLY individualized, pretty darn detailed, and irrelevant to the guy next door. How much I pay, for which lines, isn't going to help you understand insurance one whit. |

Why do you want to know all of that? How much I pay is my business only. However, I have auto, home, life, health, professional liability (errors and omissions) and commercial liability. My companies are The Hartford and State Farm. When you insure multiple lines of coverages with one insurer, you usually get a pretty good discount. Auto liability is legally mandated in my state. We are not a no-fault state. Lienholders, mortgagors and common sense demand the rest of the insurance coverage I carry. |

Great question to be asking, especially at such an age. Most people don't even understand the insurance that they have in their mid forties!!!
For any type of insurance the cost is going to vary depending on your life situation:age, health, job, marital status and others.
I was searching for different forms of life insurance, and I found this site that has a few good articles on different forms. It also has some links to get free quotes on how much it will cost you. Its http://www.finance-your-life.com
Anyway, hope that you start to understand what most people don't!!!
