What potential liabilities are you trying to protect against?
The only thing I can think of is someone claims that you stole their artwork. Is there others?
I'm not sure if I would even deal with getting liability insurance. |

You may have other problems having clients come to your home. Zoning: one complaint from the neighbors and your business is over. You can work at home, no problem, but having clients or customers come to your home is usually a no-no. Also, it looks unprofessional to have clients coming to your home as opposed to an office. ALWAYS go to your clients' offices.
Liability insurance: if clients/customers come to your home, you could have problems with your homeowners insurance. If you just have an office/work area in your house, you can probably do a rider on your homeowners policy to cover theft/damage to office equipment & such. Cheaper and much easier than a separate policy!
You need to talk to your insurance agent about potential risks for what you do, what coverages are recommended, best way to cover them. There are other types of risks not considered here, but need to be looked into. But if you are doing illustration, design, artwork at home, and GO to clients (NO clients coming to your house), you might just be ok with homeowners policy + rider for the equipment, supplies used for your biz. |

~~It would vary greatly by state and also whether you will have clients on the premises, have workers out in your client's buildings, homes, etc. The best advice is to call an agent who handles a few carriers, then you can get accurate costs. Most also need to know your projected income. It's complicated, as there is not an average anything in insurance, too many variables.~~ |

OK, it doens't matter much WHAT legal ownership structure you have.
What matters, is what's covered. For a startup, it's probably going to run $1,000 WITHOUT trademark/infringement coverage, and WITHOUT coverage for artwork, assuming your equipment runs under $10,000. |
