As other posters have noted, it varies widely by state and by price. Your health condition(s) and potential risks (smoking, weight, medical history, etc.) may impact the cost of the rate. Additionally, your product choice has a significant impact on your insurance premium. If you want a rich benefit plan with low deductibles, low copays, etc., the costs will be significantly higher than for a high deductible catastrophic plan.
According to the Kaiser Foundation, approximately 62% of U.S. business offer some form of health insurance. This is down quite a bit from 10 years ago. Additionally, the cost and benefit level for employers varies greatly. I know some companies that offer very rich benefit plans to their employees at no cost - normally this is found in union shops or high-paying professions. On the other hand, some companies charge their employees an arm and a leg (pun intended) for very minimal benefits.
One of the other posters recommended the website ehealthinsurance.com. This isn't a bad place to start. But I would also recommend talking to your local independent insurance agent. These guys/ladies, can recommend a plan that is right for you.
In my home state of Michigan, we have a non-profit Blue Cross Blue Shield plan that is mandated by the state to offer health care to everyone, regardless of health status. They offer a catastrophic plan to 19-30 year old people for about $50 a month. I think it's a pretty good deal considering when I was that age I rarely saw a doctor. An average office visit is about $70 here in Michigan. I would rather pay $50 a month to cover the worse case scenario and spend an additional $140 to pay for my 2 office visits out of pocket, then pay $150 a month to have office visits built into my health insurance.
This is the kind of advice you should anticipate receiving from your insurance agent! Sit down before you meet with him/her and figure out what kinds of drugs you take, how often you see a doctor, any chronic conditions that may be a concern, and he/she should be able to give you some solid advice. |

It depends on what state you live in. Assuming you are healthy though, look to pay between $50 and $150 per month. That will rise due to greed and inflation, and also as you age.
Right now about 60% of small businesses provide health insurance. The problem with group health insurance is that it is more expensive, and you don't own the policy. Your employer does. You could lose it when you need it the most.

~~It varies widely from state to state, by health history, weight, smoker or not, etc. As far as company insurance, that also varies-some do and some do not. Again some states require health insurance to be offerred afer with so many people, some do not. The best way to get a general idea of the cost for medical insurance would be to go to www.ehelathinsurance.com She can put in the information and get quotes back on the premium.~~ |

Like others said, it's really going to vary depending on many different factors specific to you & your individual case.
If you are a healthy 25 year old, it shouldn't be too difficult finding something that will fit with what you need, as well as what you can afford each month. However with insurance, beings that when a company "insures" you they are taking the risk should anything happen and you need medical help. Since this is the case, and they could potential be paying some huge costs if you were in any way, shape or form at risk for this to happen, and insurance companies don't like to spend money paying out on claims, they do a thorough application, and sometimes physical exam, before insuring any individual.
I suggest going to speak with a local agent. You will most likely find that they are very helpful and very rarely pushy as most people seem to assume they might be. If you fill out a request online for a quote I can assure you that you will get a ton of phone calls, and you don't want that.
As for jobs & providing health insurance?? If you aren't currently employed but seeking, that would be a good thing to ask. But even a group policy that comes through an employer can be more expensive than an individual policy depending once again on you & your health status, etc.
I'm not sure what state you are in? But if you'd like to speak or have questions etc. I'd be happy to help if I can. I have been involved with the industry for little over 2 years now, and before then I had no idea how any of it worked or even where to begin looking. So if you'd like, contact me through here on Answers and I can see if I can help.
Good Luck! |

There are so many insurance companies to choose from, so it's hard to say. And many employers do offer insurance, but some don't. When I was working, my employer covered most of my medical expenses, so I only paid a co-pay of $15 for each doctors visit and I paid no monthly fees. Many companies are reducing the benefits they offer their employees, so that the employees are expected to pay more out of their own pockets. You can do a google search for health insurance providers in your area and see what you come up with. |
