How much does insurance usually cover for a nose job?
I'm thinking about getting a nose job when I'm 17
It's for a slight deviated septum and to make it smaller
How much does insurance usually cover?

Insurance only pays for nose surgery if it is medically necessary.

So, it won't pay to make your nose smaller.

Most insurance plans do not pay for cosmetic surgery. You have to pay for that yourself.

The surgery to repair a deviated septum does not change the look of your nose. The septum is the wall that divides your nostrils. It's an internal piece of your nose. For surgery, they go in through the nostril and remove cartilage to change the shape of that internal wall. It does not change how you look at all.

I had a very bad deviated septum and had surgery to repair it last year. My insurance paid for all but my deductible and co-pays. It still cost me about 2000-2500 out of pocket.

It won't cover anything, unless its proven medically necessary that you need one. They carefully scrutinize all pre-approvals for nose surgeries.

Even if you get a prior approval, it would only apply to the deviated septum. Insurance would not cover anything towards the cosmetic aspect of making your nose smaller.

As far as what percentage it will pay...if you get pre-authorization for the deviated septum repair, then it will pay according to whatever the surgical benefits on your policy are. If your policy has any deductibles or coinsurance, you will be responsible for paying those. And also you'll be responsible for the full charge of any portion of the surgery that is purely cosmetic in nature.

This is the clinical policy bulliten for aetna. If you have coverage with aetna you have to meet the listed criteria for coverage. As long as the provider bills the approved procedure and diagnosis codes the procedure will be covered. If you do not have aetna insurance it is very possible that your insurance company has something similar to this.

IF the surgery to correct the deviated septum is medically necessary, it would cover according to your plan, subject to your deductible and copay. We have NO way of knowing what those are.

The "make it smaller" is totally seperate, and NONE would be covered.

It's true that insurance doesn't cover cosmetic, but depending on how it's billed you may only have to pay the surgeon for the cosmetic portion. It's possible that the hospital and anesthesiologist could be covered by insurance.

It's pot luck and you won't find out until afterwards.

Actually a friend of mine just got nose job done. She says it the best thing she have ever done and the results look really good so far. She regrets she should have done it years ago. She got it done in India through Tour2inida4healt Consultants and her experience was wonderful. She said that the standards were a bit like British hospitals used to be "back in the day" - things were a bit basic, but the actual standards of patient care and cleanliness are much higher than in NHS hospitals. She was very pleased with the way she was treated there, and most of all happy with the final result and she’s grateful that she was in the right hands. Tour2inida4health Consultants is very famous in India. They also have photos pasted of their International patients.

You can checkout their website.
