How much does it cost to have renter's insurance?
For a single person with one dog (not on the "bad" list for insurance) On average, how much should I expect to pay? And is it worth it to have?

I agree with those that say about $100-150 a year. It is so worth it. You never know when something will happen through no fault of your own. If there is a leak in the roof, or a pipe bursts, you'll be covered and will get your items replaced. Your landlord's policy only covers the building, and does not provide ANY coverage for your belongings.

Rates for renter's insurance varies from state to state, and it depends how many items you will be include in the coverage.

It's so cheap, it can be around $10 a month. And it's SO worth it. Imagine if there were a fire and you lost everything. How would you replace it all? Get it. State Farm has great rates.

It's a good idea to have it.

Here's a site that helps you figure out how much to get, and what it will cost:

Like all insurance, we never know when a loss will occur so it makes good sense to have it. Rates for renters insurance vary widely depending on how much coverage you want and where you live. Most policies require a minimum of about $25,000 and you should opt for replacement cost coverage which replaces depreciated items at the cost of replacement at time of loss.

Most renters policies protect you against the perils of fire, theft, vandalism, windstorm, lightening, and certain forms of water damage. Liability is also included in almost all policies.

For the minimimum amount of insurance, premiums will vary from about $150 per year to about $500 per year depending on where you live. South Florida, for example is one area where rates have risen along with the potential threats of hurricanes. Choose a company that will offer liability coverage which includes dog bites.
