I just got a new one...just went down to the social security office and showed them my i.d. and told them the # and got it in less than 2 weeks in the mail...it was free.

It doesnt cost anything. You to the web site for your area and get the address or look in the phone book for your nearest social security office. You do have to send them an orginal bith certificate, marriage liscense or drivers card or there is a list of other things you can send. I was afraid to send them (orginals) in the mail so I got a mail receipt($2.50) telling me they received them. They were real good about sending them back right away. I think I had mine back in a week and a half, The card came very shortly after, like a few days.
