How to Expedite Life Insurance Claim...?
My father just passed away, and I am the sole beneficiary to his life insurance policy. Because we weren't sure who the beneficiary was (my father didn't leave a copy of the policy around), other members of my family sent in claim forms as well, but the insurance company is rejecting their claims, and plans to send them rejection letters.

However, due to an allowed "appeal" period (though I know they won't appeal, since they know I'm the only beneficiary), the insurance company won't pay the benefit for 70 days. The only shortcut, the company says, is to get the other family members to fax in notorized letters saying that they withdraw their claims, which is a big hassle I know no one will want to do; and a couple of them are very difficult to reach.

I would prefer the insurance company to just send out the letters. Is there a legal way that I can get this expedited without dealing with the "70 day" waiting period? I would like to pay off the funeral and my father's taxes. Please advise!

Probably not. BUT, if you are the beneficiary, you can request an advance from the payout, for the purpose of paying off the funeral. The taxes will have to wait, though.

Have the funeral home submit a claim to the insurance company for payment. When my parents died, the funeral home did this and the insurance company paid the funeral home directly.

As for taxes or any other money left over, you will just have to wait out the time period due to the disputed family members filing claims. They are just doing a CYA and following either their company procedure or by law the states requirements on payment.

good luck

I have never heard of waiting 70 days. I have also never heard of them mailing out decline letters and waiting for an appeal.

I have been doing insurance a long time and never heard of that. Not to say I know everything because I don't.
