Telecaster Baby | How to become better at sales? |
I sell commercial insurance to other insurance brokers and am looking for sales strategies to help propell my career. Some of my business comes from contacts I have with in the industry, however I need to produce more business. Any suggestions to help with "cold calls" and follow ups? |

You might consider buying Internet leads. They are especially good because they are generated by consumers proactively seeking solutions only minutes before you receive the leads. An internet lead is pre-qualified in the sense that the consumer has already performed a search with a search engine, looking for a solution to a problem. They have then taken the time to fill out a form, requesting a call. A good lead provider “scrubs” the lead to make sure the data is valid before it is offered for sale. All of this is done in seconds after the consumer fills out the form. If you pay a little more, you can have the lead exclusively for a period of time—exclusive from the company that sold it to you. (If the consumer filled out more than one form, then they can be contacted by someone else.) Check out these guys: http://www.ileads.com/ Not only do they have real-time internet leads, but they also have a replacement policy for leads with bad data. They also enhance their insurance leads with data from First American Financial, so you will have a better handle on how serious and qualified the lead is and perhaps even be able to prepare a quote before you call. |

I've got an in-law who is retired from years of sales. He was good at it. He always recommended Zig Ziglar's books. You can get them at your local library. His website:
http://www.ziglar.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=22&osCsid=3jain8qpqt6d2d2chvd9kl83k3
I see some free helpful downloads there as well. (checking them out my self) |

I'd say that you could switch your goals on the cold calls and follow-ups.
Just try to make contact more often and gather information about the market, the sales will follow naturally.
Keep in mind that you are looking for business, but you don't need the cold hard approach.
Also, several experts recommend that you "warm up" the calls with some mailing and other actions (adds, newsletter, greeting cards, etc.)
Godspeed! |

My favorite sales tool is Magnetic business cards. You will tend to hang around with the people you have socialized with. Regular cards are often discarded after they are brought back to the office but magnetic ones are kept. I have a vendor that sell them to me for 13c a piece. I think it is my secret to my sucess. I continuously make it into the top 5% of my companies sales. When you go to follow up you will may see your card hanging there and you will make a lasting impression. PS Dont forget your photo on the card also. |

There are quite a few quality books out there on the art of cold calling. It's been several years since I did any cold calling, but I saw some good results from a book by Stephan Schiffman, "Cold Calling Techniques that really work". |
