In the UK just go to your local police station. Whatever you do, don't call the emergency number 999 - this is no emergency.
The police will go through a form with you and give you a reference number, which is what you will need to give to the insurers. |

Fiona are you in the UK? if you're just go to your local police station and file a report of the incident, you need to provide them with the receipt and any other paper work from the insurance company, best of luck. |

Some insurance companies will classify the loss as a "mysterious disappearance". If it should be found, be certain and let the insurance company know, this happens very often and will not create a problem. |

Call your insurance company first! let them know and they will tell you what to do. If you purchased insurance on it you should be fine. If you lost it, there will be no police involved!
Find out first from a person there, vs calling the police .
