Jennifer B | How to get off an car insurance policy? |
about 2 years ago, my mom signed me up in the same insurance as her car...i don't drive her car and never did, however, we still pay 80 bucks extra a month, i want to get off of that insurance but i hear its much trickier than it seems. The car i drive is already insured, but not under my name. Is that legal or not? I live in illinois if that helps. how should i go about removiving my name from this insurance company? |

In order to be taken off her policy, you have to prove to her company that you are insured elsewhere. Are you a named driver on the policy on the car you drive? If so, get a copy of the policy & show it to your mother's insurance & you should be able to be taken off. If you are not, you will not be able to be taken off. You have to be listed as a driver SOMEWHERE. |

well if you live in your mom shome you need to be listed on her policy, unless she excludes you as a driver. if you dont live with her, you will have to prove that you have other coverage in order to get taken off. |

You remove your name from a car by signing an "operator exclusion form". That means, no way, no how, is any car you drive, or are you, going to be covered in case of an accident.
If you're not listed on the policy for the car you drive, that's insurance fraud. You'll have to get listed - but likely you'll pay the extra $80 a month there. |
