I have just recieved a new task for my new job in an insurance company. My boss wants me to collect personal information about 50 people by the end of this week including their phone number, marital status, level of income and type of insurance.
I need ideas on how to get such information. Should I go around the streets to stores and try to get information from clients, or could I contact people by phone through the phonebook? Any other ideas or hints. |

You start cold calling people and asking their incomes, you're going to get hung up on a lot. In this day and age of identity fraud, not such a great way to get new clients.
I assume your boss wants info on possible new clients that he can call. I suggest you reach out to people that know you.
Talk to people at your church. Join civic groups or rotary clubs.
Complete strangers would have to be idiots to give that kind of information to a complete stranger on the phone or to some stranger that shows up at their door. Sure, let me give my name- address- marital status and income level to someone who does not know me just because they asked. If I wanted people I don't know to have that info, I'd just post in on YA.
Personally, it irritates the heck out of me to get cold called. If I want to change insurance companies or learn about your company, I'll ask you. If you cold call me, I'll go to any other agent in the phone book but you. |

Start with people YOU know, then people THEY know, then people THEY know, etc.
Unless you already know the people, and they want to do business with you, it will be tough to get personal information from them, such as their amount of income.
Once you get an appointment to do a Financial Need Analysis (FNA), or your company's needs-selling system, with a prospect, he/she will share that confidential info in order to get a correct analysis.
You can order leads form the internet. Just "google" "Life Insurance leads" and there are several sites with available leads. You may get some free leads with an order.
ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS ask for referred leads. If each client gave you 2-3 prequalified leads, you will always have places to go and people to see.

Are you part of any associations. That is probably the easiest way. Start with a church directory and talk with the members to get information. Their is a do not call list that prohibits you form soliting to people, which if you are just fact finding you may not be doing. You can do a survey in at a library or in front fo a business if they will allow you. I would try to find the place to get the most people the fastest. It may be a little uncomfortable but the results will come quicker in person. Good Luck |
