If you are absolutely certain you can easily prove the other driver was at fault, you can skip the lawyer and go straight to the insurer. Present them with the bills and offer to settle for an honestly reasonable amount.
Be as nice and as persistent as possible. If you are pleasant about it and insistent, you will find you will not only get more money, but you'll get it a LOT faster.
The stats show without a lawyer you get about the same money but get it a year quicker. |

Your only real option is to shop around for an attorney who will take the smallest percentage of the settlement. And unfortunately, you probably won't see near the money (if any) if you don't hire an attorney to handle the case for you. |

If you didn't suffer substantial injury and/or lost time from work, don't hold your breath waiting for a windfall. You get money only on the basis of your injury, pain and suffering, and damage to your car. And you have to have proof of it. To prove that you have an injury you need a doctor's verification. And if you feel you have cause for legal redress, unless you know and understand the law, and can state your case in court, you need a lawyer. Chances are, your insurance company will do a fine job of handling things. |
