Blue Cross/Blue Shield offers a LARGE variety of individual plans, that are fairly reasonable.
I'm not sure what your definition of "expensive" is, either. |

You do realize that if you're 20 years old and in good health the odds of you incurring expenses in excess of your insurance premiums are very low? At your age you should be buying catastrophic insurance with $2000+ deductibles. There is no leverage in buying a health plan that essentially has a high component of prepaid service to it (like dental "insurance"). |

All insurance is expensive. There are discount programs out there that offer dental and prescriptions at discount rates but the doctors you see are very limited. You can try one called amerigroup. Just type that in your google search. There should be a way to check dentists in your area on their site. |

You can't get cheaper than a group rate, which is the one your work is offering. |

no.
What your company offers is probably cheaper than anything you can buy independently.
Unless its for a deductible >$1200.00, and a premium > about $400.00-$500.00; you're better off with the one through your job. |

Private dental insurance - what you're looking for - is usually much more expensive with much less coverage than a group policy. So forget dental, if you're not getting it through work.
What kind of numbers are you talking about? What's a "moderate price" to you? A REASONABLE price for a comprehensive health insurance policy is around $200 a month, that varies geographically. If you want to skip minor problems and maintenance issues, and just get a "major medical" policy to cover "major problems" that might crop up - like with a $5,000 deductible, you can probably buy that for less than $100 a month.
In any case, you'd have to contact a local agent to shop around for you for prices - but it could be that you're just not being realistic about what health insurance costs. |
