yes, to protect yourself now against health problems in the future. buy a cheap, convertable (ask your agent what that means) policy - term 15 or 20 year. that way if in 10 years you get health problems, or get married you already have a policy with guaranteed rates, and you are guaranteed to be able to get perm coverage (if you select the conversion option)

If you currently have all the money you will ever need, then no, you don't need life insurance.

If you have not yet achieved financial independence, and especially if you have children, a spouse, debts that you want to repay or other goals that you want to achieve with your life then look into insurance - life, disability etc.

The key word is "goals." What do you want to achieve in your life? What will get you there, financially and otherwise? Do you have a game plan to achieve those goals?

You can achieve a lot. It is very difficult to achieve all of it on your own. Learn to use coaches and other that can give you sage advice that works for you. You won't find those people here.

Probably not. The question you need to ask is "What is the adverse financial impact of my death?" If the answer is "very little" or "not much", then you probably don't need life insurance.

Life insurance is really a hedge against dying prematurely and leaving people behind that rely on you for financial support. If you are single and can leave behind enough for final expenses (burial = $4000 - $6000, cremation much less) and you don't have any outstanding debt that someone would have to pick up, skip the life insurance for now.

Put what you would spend on life insurance into a savings or investment vehicle for personal emergencies. Keep your debt low, and pay off your credit cards monthly. At your age, debt reduction and avoidance is probably much more important than qualifying for a life policy.

Do you own property? Are you currently employed full time?

If the answer is no, then there isn't a need, if you don't have any children.

Possibly not. Do you have a crap load of debt? Are you married? Do you have kids, married or not? If you answer yes to these questions, you should check into insurance. If you answer no, then wait to get until you can answer these questions.

No, not unless you have dependents (like children). Life insurance doesn't provide you with anything tangible. It does some good for those who survive you, if they are the beneficiaries of your policy. Unless there's someone you want to take care of in case something happens to you, keep the money you'd otherwise pay out in premiums and use it for something else. Save it and invest it for: a downpayment on a house, retirement, overseas travel, the car you really want, etc.

actually inusrance is alot chleaper at 21 than at 41 - there are policies that grow in cash value - which as loan value

I agree with many of the answers. In general, if you have little debt and no one that needs financial support, you probably don't need much life insurance, enough to put you in the ground so someone else is not stuck with the bill. However, looking at your family history does not hurt. Buying life insurance now is CHEAP and it can protect your future insurability. Many term policies have conversion privileges that allow you to switch to a permanent policy while keeping the same rating you received when you applied for the term. This is nice if you have an event that makes you uninsurable. If you are looking at a permanent policy (whole life or UL), then now is the time. At 21, a $50,000 UL should only cost you around $35 / month, not a whole lot more than a term policy. But with permanent insurance, you get to keep that price for the rest of your life. There is a lot to consider. I would recommend finding an insurance agent to help explain the differences in policies. Make sure they sell both term and permanent policies. If they only sell one kind, they will likely lead you to what they sell, not what you need. If they sell both, they will lead you to what you need.

Why, just to say you have it?

Insurance - even life insurance - is a TOOL. BEFORE you buy a tool, DEFINE THE JOB. Buy the tool that fits the job.

Just buying something for the sake of buying it, is NOT a good financial decision - for ANYTHING.
