Yep, don't buy online, and don't do those rate comparisons online. They harvest your personal information, and sell it to agents as leads.

Go to a local, independent agent, who can help explain the plans, and help you pick on that balances cost, deducibles, and coverages.

It depends on your state. If you're a self-employed person, your premiums are 100% deductible. Have you looked at a high deductible plan with a Health Savings Account? It's a great way to save premiums and put away money for future health expenses (such as Long Term Care). The HSA contributions are also deductible. The money in the account can even be used for non-covered medical expenses like orthodontia and eyeglasses. Some HSA's are even designed like PPO's where the company negotiates a price discount with your healtcare provider.

Contact a local broker in your area. They will be able to find an insruance product that suits you best. There are a lot of options on the market and it's tought o sift out the good from the bad and get past all their "We're the best!" marketing. A Broker can sift through all the crap and give you your best options.

What state do you live in? Generally the more liberal states should have some type of state pool you can buy into.
