I'm not gay but need health insurance?
In my state (ct) my boyfriend can not add me to his health insurance policy because we are not a homosexual couple. We live together and have for a long time, but because we have the option of getting married I can't have coverage. While I am happy that Ct takes homosexual relationships into account, I feel heterosexuals are being discriminated against. We are not religious and in no hurry to marry- we are very happy. Any thoughts on the legalities here or how to get around this?

Ask around about common law marriage. Some states only require 2 years or so living together and sharing expenses. Your bf would have to sign a paper making you comon law married though. It's just a title.

Nobody's home
Guess you'll either get married, or get your own health insurance.

Get a female co-worker of his to say your are HER gf. And maybe your man could return they favor to somebody for her?

Whine to your local newspaper about how ridiculous this rule is. The media like to take things like this and make a big deal out of it. Maybe the story could turn things around for you. But... if this isn't an option, my only suggestion would be to either get married for the health insurance like Susan on Desperate Housewives, or get a job that provides benefits like I did. Gee, it rocks to be independent!

If you already live together, then there is no reason not to be married. Seriously, I don't get it. Religion has very little to do with getting married.

If you've lived together for a "long time", as per your question...you might fit the definition of being "common law" married. Check it out...

Mo the Great
Pay for your own damn health insurance.Simple.

Buy individual coverage through an insurance carrier. Other than that a common law marriage would be the only other way around it and since you don't seem to want to be married I wouldn't suggest this option. Seperate coverage is the best way to go.

If common law marriage is accepted in your state maybe. Otherwise sorry bite the bullet either get married or purchase health insurance. That's how it is. Sucks doesn't it? MA and FL is the same way. I think it's dumb if you ask me
