typically you don't need to apply for anything (it may vary by state and city). if you are pregnant you can go to a hospital or call a doctor and tell them the situation. once the baby is born in the US and is a citizen, he/she will have health coverage in most states (i'm not sure about all states though). |

If you are here legally, you can go to any hospital when you are in labor and they are required to admit you and deliver the baby. There are free immunizations available through clinics located throughout the country, as well as WIC (women infant children) for baby formula should you need it.
Perhaps you can return to the country where you are a citizen to get the help you need. I'm curious as to why you think that our government should pay for your child - |

I am an American citizen, born and raised in America. I work long hard hours and pay taxes so you can have all the things for free that I can't afford. |

Are you a legal or illegal immigrant? If legal go to department of social services (welfare) ask about medicaid, and food stamps. If illegal I dont know what to tell you -its hard but you chose your path. You can also apply for WIC through the county health department. |

Crystal: If you told us what state you live in, we might be able to give you better advice and specific referrals for help. But since you have not shared that information, here are some general points:
If you are in the US legally, you can apply for Medicaid. The benefits and regulations vary from state to state. But please do not wait - prenatal care is the most economical way of ensuring a healthy baby and mom! Please contact local women's health initiatives/clinics - they often have wonderful prenatal/delivery/midwife services with hospital back-up and at very reasonable costs and payment plans.
If you are here illegally, you can go to a hospital when you are in labor and they cannot refuse to deliver you and take care of you and your baby. But this is a terrible idea for more reasons than one. Prenatal care must be your first priority! No matter what your faith, contact local churches with immigrant assistance programs, unwed mother assistance programs, etc. They will be very happy to help you in any way they can.
Finally, pay no attention to the ignorant responses written here. For some of these people to jump to the conclusion that you are here illegally, don't pay your way, don't pay taxes, etc. is the height of ignorance, bigotry, and racism. What goes around, comes around.
Be well, and good luck! |

Without being a citizen of the US, you're not eligible for US aid. You MIGHT want to go to a local church, see if you have a "Gabriel Project" in your area (www.gabrielproject.org).
Or you can check with your OWN country, and see what THEY'RE willing to do for you. |

The welfare office would help you. And, people shouldn't be so mean. Things happen. As we get older we learn.
God bless you, Linda |

here's an idea...stop putting a strain on our system and go back to your own country. illegal immigrants can not apply for assistance in this country. |

The baby will be a U.S. citizen after it is born, if it is born in the U.S. (unless you or the father is a diplomat and the baby is born with diplomatic immunity). You can apply for the same help for it (after it is born) as if you were a citizen.
If insurance were available to you now, so that you could obtain proper prenatal care, that would save more money in post-birth care for the baby than the prenatal care would cost. |

Check with a local charity hospital. If you're in Texas, UTMB in Galveston is a popular choice for non-citizens. |

That could be a challenge... do you have family that could help, friends, are you religious then perhaps the church you go to? A woman's shelter or assistance program. I'm not sure if WIC would cover those who don't have citizenship, but it's something to look into. WIC is Women, Infant, Children, it's an assistance program to help women care for their newborns and children in food and bottle feeding for infants, it's a program that each check tells you exactly what you can purchase on each check, the assistance is based on your financial situation, costs and so on. It might be something to at least look into. Again I don't know how any programs will work especially considering the witch hunt our president is pushing with non-citizens, but it can't hurt to look into the program anyways. best of luck |

You may try medicaid, I think you can still get that if you're not a citizen. If not, go to your local health department and they can tell you about local programs that are available. |
|

YES, I use correct grammar!
 |
See about becoming a citizen first and foremost. If you go to a government office (such as medicaid or welfare), you'll be deported. |

I never post on these boards-- but reading some of the anweser people have posted is ridiculous- first most of your rude responses are very incorrect like--- " if you go to welfare or medicaid they will deport you" secone even if she is illegal-- who are we to judge her situaion- god help you if your ever in need of help in another country-- legal or illegal we are all human .
and for the the question if you can get any help--- you can for sure get WIC-- you are also able to get EMERGENCY medicaid- legal or illegal-- that will help with your prenatal and delivery and dont be afraid to contact gourverment agencies-churches-non profits with questions or concerns-- most americans (well some) are happy to assit anybody (and the others.. well.. lol.. they are the ones who make the "good" name this country has all around the world. good luck to you and god bless- dont stress -- you are not alone-- you have help here and everything will work out. |
