if he works for an employer & has group health coverage then you may be added on his insurance if its within 63 days from the date you lost your insurance. You will need a certificate of coverage (cofc) from your former ins company. You will probably need to submit your marriage certificate & your husband will need to send those documents in when he enrolls you. If he adds you within 63 days you s/be covered. The time frame you were previously covered under your former ins will count towards the months that are credited to your coverage, called creditable coverage, (when it comes to pre-existing.) If you were covered at least 18 mos w/o a lapse of 63 days then your pre-x conditions are waived. keep in mind its credited so if you were only covered by your former insurance for 9 months then the new ins carrier will probably restrict payment for pre-existing conditions for the first nine months. The Ins co I work for only checks pre-x for the first 12 months. So if someone had 9 months of coverage with their former carrier (as an example) then our ins would only check/restrict the pre-x conditions for the first 3 months of coverage, after that - its waived. This is for group to group insurance companies only. There should be a lot of info on the internet if you search - HIPAA (health insurance portability and accountability act) and creditable coverage - it should explain the same scenarios. good luck. |

No they won't. I just went through this whole fiasco. Keep in mind, insurance companies exist to make money not to help the customers. |

Evidently they looked into your medical history. It is for this reason that folks need to be very, VERY, V E R Y careful if their doctor wants to put them on meds as you can be LABELED for the rest of your life as a diabetic or high blood pressure risk etc..
Once you have that info in your file the insurance companies will see it. |

I thought a couple could both be on the same insurance if you are married. The best thing you can do is speak to your husband about adding you on, or better yet calling his health insurance. Try it.
Now, I'm single and have pre-existing conditions and I have to go through a special insurance and pay $300 a month, and $30 a doctor's visit. I couldn't qualify with regular insurance, based on my condition. In CA. |

if you were on his insurance to begin with, yes, if not, no... a pre-existing condition is anything you've seen the doctor for within a certain time period, usually a year or 18 months... read up on his policy and find out |

Not unless they have a provision for it or the state you are in requires they do. |

nope - in fact most insurance companies will not cover someone with preexisting conditions. the few that do, cost an arm and a leg. |

Wait for open enrollment for his insurance... |

The company can disqualify your conditions as a means to make you wait for coverage, typically 6 months is the norm but under law they can't deny you coverage. All you have to do is prove you were covered previously by any type of insurance and the waiting period can be waived. |

As with any type of insurance, it depends on the policy that your husband choose and paid for. You should get your (his) policy and read through it carefully.
Medical insurance will often exclude or restrict pre-existing conditions because you are more likely to claim for those conditions. Let's face it, insurance cos are a business. You may still be able to be named on the cover, but you may not be able to claim for certain situation, you need to talk direct to the company after you have read the policy. |

Depends on what type of coverage he has. It also depends on where he works. If he works for a big company then there is pretty much no way that you will be denied for pre-existing conditions. Now if it is a small company they usually have less employees so the coverage is not as good and a pre-existing condition can be excluded. |

When I got onto a new policy, I needed to wait a year before any conditions I already had seen a doctor for were covered. |

If you're going from one group insurance policy to another group insurance policy, and your lapse in coverage is less than 63 days, then yes.
If his policy is NOT a group policy, they don't have to take you if they don't want to. |
