The four plans I have to choose from are...

PPO FlexBLue (HSA)
PPO Option 14
Blue Care Network (HMO) Basic
Blue Care Network (HMO) Deductible 3

I'm 24 and hope to have a baby within the next couple years. Which one do you think would be better and why?

1. Is like a savings acct that is tax deferred
2. You can go to Doc of choice in a wide network
3.Is probably cheaper than PPO but limited to doc choice and if something tragic happened you might have to wait a long time to get it approved
4. I am assuming like HMO Basic except w/ded. Probably the least per month.
If you can afford it go with the PPO option
If not go with the HMO basic if you are in excellent health

HMO basic
it will cover what needs to be covered, and keep your costs down through mangaged care. Good option if you must watch what you spend

I like PPOs because I can chose to go to a specialist without being referred - important to me because I use alternative medicine (homeopath) and MDs don't like that.
Look at how you use your health care now. Do you get a yearly pap - how about a yearly physical? Do you only go in when you are sick? Price all those things out under each plan. Really look at the pregnancy coverage and compare that too. Make sure the doctor you want to use is covered under the plan you chose - some will accept the PPO but not the HMO because of the lower allowances. If you are young and healthy and don't run to the doctor often, then maybe the accident coverage would be more important - you will have to decide for yourself. So make a scenario and price it out for yourself under each plan - deductibles and co-pays etc.

I'm sorry but I am a disable vet so I go to the VA, so I don't know anything about Insurance. Sorry, David

You should really ask your human resource manager or the person who provides this service. Alot of businesses have a meeting to explain them to you. HMOs suck compared to some insurance plans. With hmos you have to go to certain doctor and hospital otherwise your not covered so if you go into labor and aren't at home or have problems and have to go to a special hospital you could be paying out of pocket. Its a pain. Have them explained to you and ask questions so you don't end up with surprises later.

You need to look at a side by side comparison of all the plans. If your goal is to have a baby soon, make sure you pick a plan that best covers maternity.
